Hillsdale County Agricultural Society Hillsdale County Fair Facility Maintainer Job Description

The Hillsdale County Agricultural Society is a well-known organization in the agricultural community that holds various events throughout the year, including the annual Hillsdale County Fair. We are currently hiring for a Facility Maintainer and are looking for a talented individual who is passionate about their work and is eager to join a dynamic team.

General Summary

​

Under the supervision of the Fair Secretary/Manager, performs various maintenance, construction and repair tasks to maintain the buildings and grounds of the Hillsdale County Agricultural Society.  Possess a general knowledge of tractors, power tools, carpentry and other repair and maintenance skills. Supervisory and customer service skills required. Employee may be required to work some weekends and available to handle emergency repair/maintenance as necessary.

Typical Duties

​

• Carpentry skills.

• Repair and replace plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes and water faucets. 

• Repair damaged water lines and open clogged drains. 

• Maintain and clean restrooms and shower facilities.

• Event set-up/take down.

• Change light bulbs and various fixtures.

• Performs various tasks such as removing manure and trash and clean & repair roads.

• Prepares and paints various equipment, fences and buildings.

• Inspects, maintains and repairs buildings. 

• Ability to read gauges, change belts, filters, oil and grease equipment.

• Ability to communicate with the Fair Secretary/Manager concerning buildings & grounds issues and equipment needed to satisfactory complete the assigned tasks. 

• Possess the ability to work independently and schedule daily work.

• Work schedule may include weekends as determined by scheduled activities.

• Winterize the fairgrounds including the water system.

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

​

• Position may require heavy lifting.

• Ability to climb and use various size ladders. 

• Position requires outside work in all types of weather year round.

Employment Qualifications

​

• High School diploma preferred. 

• Requires a minimum of one year of general maintenance, construction, and repair experience or equivalent.

• Necessary requirement: Knowledge of the operation of tractors, lawn mowers, grass trimmers, hand tools and other motorized equipment.
